G1 EPOPEY: BoCirk & JFO

BoCirk Company – artists
Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava
Daniel Raiskin – Chief Conductor of the JPO

Alfons Mucha’s monumental cycle comes to life in an original orchestral and visual production that unites symphonic music, acrobatics, movement, light, and imagery into a single сценographic form. Epopey is not an illustration of Mucha’s canvases, but a free, contemporary interpretation—transferring their ideas, symbols, and emotions into the living space of the concert hall.

Under the musical direction of Chief Conductor Daniel Raiskin, the Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava creates the sonic backbone of the production, complemented by the acrobatic tableaux of BO CIRK Company, renowned for its physical theatre and multidisciplinary approach. Director Jan Jirásek weaves music, movement, and stage action into a flowing narrative inspired by key moments in Slavic history—from pagan rituals through spiritual transformations, conflicts, and the search for identity.

A prominent role is also played by video mapping and lighting design, which draw on Mucha’s imagery and symbolism to create a constantly evolving visual world across different epochs.

The project is created in collaboration with the Mucha Foundation and the château in Moravský Krumlov, where The Slav Epic is permanently exhibited. The result is a contemporary stage production that connects history with the artistic language of today and offers an intense sensory experience.
