Legendary violinist and singer Jiří Pavlica will celebrate his 70th birthday together with Hradištěan and JPO. He has served as Hradistan’s principal musician and artistic director since 1978, during which time he has taken the band from its originally narrow folk focus to an alternative dramaturgy that is not afraid to cross the boundaries of different musical genres and philosophically deepen the legacy of folk tradition. His ability to connect musicians across genres has led him to collaborate with Vlasta Redl, Emil Viklicky, the Spiritual Quintet, the Leoš Janáček Chamber Orchestra, as well as artists from abroad (Alistair Anderson – Great Britain, Yas Kaz – Japan, Dizu Plaatjies – South Africa).

Jiří Pavlica’s works are now almost synonymous with Hradistan. His songs draw inspiration from Moravian folklore tradition and his lyrics can not only touch the soul but also convey a deeper philosophical message. He himself says that his songs are mainly about love, faith in goodness and hope.
