Generace Composition Competition Final

As part of the concert, held in the personal presence of the composers, the 51st edition of the Generace International Composition Competition will reach its culmination. An expert jury chaired by composer Ondřej Adámek will select the best composition of this year’s edition. The Audience Award and the Orchestra Award will also be presented. Each listener will receive a voting ballot, and the results will be announced immediately after the concert.

In this year’s edition, 51 young composers from 20 countries applied across two competition categories. The finalists in the under-30 category are Zsolt András (Seven Variations from Parallel Timelines), Francisco Pulpillo Chiclana (Rock Me Off), Hajrudin Džudža (Mélasse Noire), Jaakko Kilpeläinen (Vers la clarté), and Jan Kotyk (Světlosmutnění).

The competition is organized by the Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava as part of the Leoš Janáček International Music Festival, in cooperation with the Ostrava Creative Centre. Financial support has been provided by the City of Ostrava and the Association of Music Artists and Scientists.

The concert is co-organized by the Faculty of Fine Arts and Music of the University of Ostrava.

Carmina Burana Open Air

The festival will conclude with a piece that will captivate even those who don’t normally listen to classical music. Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana – the most performed cantata in the world – will be heard in all its spontaneity, drama and playfulness of medieval songs.
