The Choral Association of Moravian Teachers has had a long-standing tradition to start a new year with a concert in Ostrava, and this custom will be preserved in 2018 too. The choir, which was founded by Ferdinand Vach in Kroměříž in 1903, performed for the first time in the very same year. A memorable day in his history, however, will forever remain a Prostějov rehearsal for a Paris trip in April 1908 where Janáček’s Maryčka Magdónova had its premiere. Even though Maryčka initially seemed to be beyond the choir’s abilities, the ensemble ultimately managed to achieve the task, and the piece happens to be one of the songs that will be played at this concert too.
