The prestigious German label CPO is releasing a new recording featuring music by Czech composer Vítězslav Novák. Under the baton of Łukasz Borowicz, the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra Ostrava presents not only Novák’s piano concerto with pianist Oliver Triendl, but also two orchestral suites from his ballets Nikotina and Signorina Gioventu, both of which are being recorded for the first time.

The suite from Nikotina was once prepared by the legendary conductor Václav Talich, and this is the first time we hear it in this form on record. The suite from Gioventu will be performed in a version created by Łukasz Borowicz specifically for this recording.

This recording is of special significance for the orchestra, as it is not only an accompaniment to a soloist, but also an interpretation of purely orchestral compositions by a Czech composer. It is therefore a profile title that expands our catalog of Czech music recordings with respected foreign publishers.

The recording was directed by experienced music director Markéta Janáčková. Conductor Łukasz Borowicz has performed with us on stage in the past and has now prepared his second recording with us for the CPO label. Pianist Oliver Triendl has dozens of recordings to his credit, including a recently released album of music by Josef Schelb, which was also produced in collaboration with the JFO.

You can already listen to the recording on Spotify.
