International Orchestral Academy

24. 1. 20

Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava opens the International Orchestral Academy. With its international reach, it is the first project of its kind in the Czech Republic.

The Academy is here primarily to enable students and graduates of music academies to play in one of the best Czech orchestras. The traineeship can be completed within the Erasmus + program.

A maximum of 20 young musicians can participate in the Academy. The admitted musicians will work in the JFO for a minimum of 5 months and a maximum of 11 months.

First trainees can be accepted to the program at the beginning of the year 2020, the second half of the 2019/20 concert season. The first auditions are currently underway and selected trainees will join the orchestra at the beginning of February. Another audition for the orchestral academy (for the 2020/21 season) will be announced in spring 2020.

The cooperation of young talented musicians and professional players brings, according to experience from existing academies, many positive musical and interpersonal impulses. During their participation in the Academy, trainees go through an individual training program, the so-called mentoring, which includes studying parts under the guidance of concertmasters and first JFO players, as well as deepening general musical knowledge and skills.

Members of the JFO Orchestra Academy will participate in most of the programs that JFO plays – subscription concerts, concerts away from home, hosting abroad, recording, etc. Besides, members of the Academy will jointly study the program and present it at a special concert.
