We are in the finals of the Gramophone Classical Music Awards 2025

01. 9. 25

The collection of Vítězslava Kaprálová’s complete orchestral works, entitled “Vítězslava Kaprálová – The Completed Orchestral Works,” which we released in collaboration with the prestigious German label cpo under the direction of conductor Alena Hron, has advanced to the finals of the Gramophone Classical Music Awards 2025 in the Orchestral category.

“…it is fitting that Alena Hron, who has been appointed chief conductor of the Czech orchestra, is conducting. The Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra Ostrava plays absolutely wonderfully for her…”

The Gramophone Classical Music Awards are among the world’s most prestigious awards in the field of classical music, with a tradition dating back to 1977. The winners are selected annually by critics from Gramophone magazine and various representatives of the music industry, including radio and television stations. The awards are presented annually in London in the fall. A complete overview of this year’s nominations can be found here.

This unique recording presents Vítězslava Kaprálová’s complete orchestral works, from Military Sinfonietta to Piano Concerto and Partita for Piano and Strings to festive miniatures. The project began in May 2022 as one of the last at the Ostrava House of Culture, was completed in 2023, and was released by cpo in April 2024. Pavel Kunčar took charge of the musical direction, Jana Jelínková was the sound director, and soprano Veronika Rovná and pianist Tomáš Vrána contributed vocally. In addition to the Piano Concerto and Partita for Piano and Strings, Vrána also recorded the original and previously unreleased version of the solo Suite for Piano. The album also brings listeners the world premiere recording of Fanfare for Brass Instruments and Timpani, one of Kaprálová’s last works. The album has attracted the attention of international media such as BBC Music Magazine, MusicWeb International, and Diapason d’Or.
