Harpist Jana Boušková joins RCM Strings Faculty

The Royal College of Music is delighted to welcome world-renowned harpist Jana Boušková to the Strings Faculty.

The Czech-born musician belongs to an elite group of world-renowned harpists and has held a string of high-profile positions including the official soloist for the harp makers Lyon & Healy, soloist of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra and Professor at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague.

As well as performing with orchestras around the world, Jana plays chamber music with a wide range of musicians including Christian Telzlaff, Yury Bashmet and Maxim Vengerov, who is the RCM’s Polonsky Visiting Professor of Violin. A number of composers have also written new works especially for Jana which she has premiered including a Sonata for cello and harp by Ravi Shanker with Mstislav Rostropovich and a Concerto for flute, harp and viola by Benjamin Yusupov with Maxim Vengerov.

She will add her wealth of experience and knowledge to our dynamic harp community. Jana’s arrival, together with the recent appointment of Stephen Fitzpatrick, Principal Harp at the Staatskapelle in Berlin, as a visiting professor mean that RCM harpists will get the very best training and support across all disciplines from the world’s leading professors and performers.’

Jana takes up her role as Harp professor from September 2019.
