In the following days, the Ostrava orchestra will perform on September 14, 2019, at a gala concert at the Viva il canto festival in Cieszyn, Poland. JPO will then head towards Germany the next weekend (September 22, 2019, Risto Joost conductor), when will present Beethoven’s 9th Symphony in the beautiful Elbphilharmonie (Elbe Philharmonic), which is famously called Elphi, in Hamburg. We believe that we will also see a similar quality hall in Ostrava.
The striking architecture in the form of a glazed superstructure on the existing listed brick building of the port warehouse was designed by the Basel office of Herzog & de Meuron. The building was inaugurated on 11 January 2017 with the participation of German President Joachim Gauck and Chancellor Angela Merkel. Elphi is a 110-meter-high multi-purpose representative building in Hamburg’s Hafencity district. Two concert halls (large for 2100 people and small for 550 people) are located on the 6th-8th floor.
